It would appear that in a crowded Republican field, conservative voters would prefer a man that has been indicted.
The political maneuvering by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg has energized the support for Donald Trump.
In the latest Fox News poll, Trump is now lapping the field, with DeSantis being the closest at 54-24 percent.
Tough Numbers
Call me crazy, but I think the move by Bragg was done for this exact reason.
I just don’t see Trump keeping this momentum, especially after this case falls apart, and it will fall apart.
In the meantime, however, Trump is loving life.
In the same poll last month, Trump was leading DeSantis 43-28.
Now, I need to stress that this poll was with a full field, so there is all of Trump’s voters and the rest of the conservatives slugging it out.
There is simply no way Trump loses this primary if he is facing off against a large field by the time they get to South Carolina.
If you look at the numbers when they are heads up, it is a different story.
In most cases, they are within a few points of each other, and keep in mind, DeSantis has not yet announces and his not campaigning, so those numbers are going to change pretty dramatically when that happens.
I have a feeling that by the time we get to primary voting, the field will be narrowed and I think that by the time we come out of Iowa, it is more than likely going to be Trump and DeSantis.
They all have the common goal of blocking Trump from the nomination, and they all know if it’s a crowded field, Trump gets the nod.
But, politicians often have more hubris than smarts, so I could be eating a plate of crow soon enough.
