Secretary of State of New Hampshire David Scanlan has decided he was having second thoughts on his decision to potentially remove former President Donald Trump from the 2024 ballot in the state.
Now, Scanlan has reversed the decision, which was initially suggested after charges were filed against Trump.
After a huge backlash and consultation with the Republican attorney general John Formella, it appears that no action will be taken on this issue.
ABC7 News reported:
That disqualification argument boils down to Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution’s 14th Amendment, which says that a public official is not eligible to assume public office if they “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against” the United States, or had “given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof,” unless they are granted amnesty by a two-thirds vote of Congress.
As secretary of state, Scanlan is responsible for overseeing New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation presidential primary which will take place at the beginning of 2024.
It requires legal input to decide whether or not Trump should be kept off the ballot and if any action should be taken under this Constitutional provision.
After Charlie Kirk instructed supporters to inundate Scanlan’s office with protest phone calls, it became clear that something had to be done about this situation.
Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk didn’t care if people lived in New Hampshire or not, he wanted a nationwide movement of people contacting their offices in order to make sure justice was served and that Trump’s name would remain on the ballot regardless.
This ultimately led to Scanlan changing his stance and saying he does not intend to remove any names from the presidential primary ballot and that he simply wants appropriate legal input for when it comes time for him to make a decision concerning candidates’ qualifications one way or another.
It is suspected that Bryant “Corky” Messner is who put this issue on Secretary David Scanlan’s radar in the first place.
Messner had previously been endorsed by Trump in New Hampshire’s 2020 U.S Senate race so many are shocked by his involvement here but he clarified his position by saying he loves America and has sworn an oath to protect its Constitution.
