FCC Ends All DEI Programs Following Trump’s Executive Order

Trump’s Executive Order Just Shut it ALL Down

The newly appointed chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has announced that he had eliminated all so-called “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” (DEI) programs in response to the executive order signed by President Donald Trump on his first day in office.

On January 21, Trump-appointed FCC Chairman Brendan Carr announced that he had already eliminated the DEI initiatives created by the Biden administration — including removing DEI from the FCC’s Strategic Plan and budget requests. The FCC chairman ordered the elimination of the agency’s DEI advisory group and 2022 equity action plan, while also ending the promotion of DEI as a component in the agency’s economic reports and annual performance plans.

He issued a statement about the decision, pointing out that these DEI initiatives are nothing more than government-supported discrimination that wastes Americans’ taxpayer dollars.

“Promoting invidious forms of discrimination runs contrary to the Communications Act and deprives Americans of their rights to fair and equal treatment under the law. It also represents a wasteful expenditure of taxpayer resources,” Carr explained. “Nonetheless, the FCC joined other private and public sector institutions in promoting discriminatory DEl policies during the Biden Administration. The FCC did so by embedding DEl in its strategic priorities, budget requests, advisory groups, rulemaking proceedings, and many other components of its official work.”

Carr’s decision came after Trump issued an executive order on Inauguration Day that demanded the elimination of all government DEI programs and orders.

“The Biden Administration forced illegal and immoral discrimination programs, going by the name ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion’ (DEI), into virtually all aspects of the Federal Government, in areas ranging from airline safety to the military,” the executive order read.

Trump’s order will be carried out by the director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the attorney general, and the director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Each of these individuals will be tasked with meeting with agency and cabinet heads in 60 days to discuss the progress on the changes that they were required to make.

The executive order also covers the elimination of “environmental justice” positions or offices, as well as equity action plans, and any DEI official positions created under President Joe Biden.

Trump also issued another executive order requiring the government to stop considering goals like “equity” when hiring, ordering them to instead prioritize hiring based on skills, experience, and patriotism.

“Federal hiring should not be based on impermissible factors, such as one’s commitment to illegal racial discrimination under the guise of ‘equity,’ or one’s commitment to the invented concept of ‘gender identity’ over sex,” the order read.  “Inserting such factors into the hiring process subverts the will of the People, puts critical government functions at risk, and risks losing the best-qualified candidates.”
