The Mississippi Department of Public Safety confirmed that Branden Estorffe, 23, and Steven Robin, 34, were identified as the officers killed.

A department spokesperson says that the officers arrived at Motel 6 before 4:30 a.m. local time. The officers then encountered 43-year-old Amy Anderson, the subject of the wellness check. She was found sitting in a parked vehicle with a female minor.

The officers interacted with Anderson for nearly 30 minutes. According to the DPS statement, they called the state Department of Child Protection Services.
