Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.) had a bit of a scary moment this weekend.
The congressman and gubernatorial candidate heard gunshots right outside his door this weekend.
The shooting was reportedly due to a gang beef in the area.
Scary Moments
The area where Zeldin lives is described as “bucolic,” so this is far from the norm.
Zeldin has just left his home to attend a local Columbus Day Parade in Morris Park when the shots were heard.
He stated that his two daughters were home doing their homework at the time of the shooting.
The two girls locked themselves in the bathroom and called 9-1-1.
Zeldin stated, “My 16-year-old daughters, Mikayla and Arianna, were at our house doing homework, while my wife, Diana, and I were in the car, having just departed the Bronx Columbus Day Parade in Morris Park.
“After my daughters heard the gunshots and the screaming, they ran upstairs, locked themselves in the bathroom and immediately called 911.
“They acted very swiftly and smartly every step of the way and Diana and I are extremely proud of them.”
One of the bullets was found only 30 feet from where his daughters were.
Two people who were injured during the shooting were on his property.
Zeldin stated that they were “laying down under my front porch and the bushes in front of our porch.”
