Did Google just cave to conservatives?
After canceling a sponsorship, it would appear to be the case.
The sponsorship was canceled after a petition was presented by a group of Christian workers at the tech giant.
Don’t Do It
As we have seen with many companies, sponsoring drag events is all the rage in corporate America right now.
This being Pride Month, the shows are happening all over the country, most of them with major corporate sponsors.
On Tuesday, a “Pride and Drag Show” had been scheduled, but some of the Christian employees objected.
In a rather shocking move, Google pulled its sponsorship of the event.
This happened after a petition was presented calling the event a “direct affront to the religious beliefs and sensitivities of Christians.”
The drag performer slated to headline the show was Peaches Christ, who the petition claimed, “Their provocative and inflammatory artistry is considered a direct affront to the religious beliefs and sensitivities of Christians.”
Google is trying to play both ends of this burning candle, claiming that the event was canceled because it was booked before it had been fully approved by the tech company.
Google stated, “We’ve long been very proud to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community.
“Our Pride celebrations have regularly featured drag artists for many years, including several this year.
“This particular event was booked by and shared within one team without going through our standard events process.
“While the event organizers have shifted the official team event onsite, the performance will go on at the planned venue – and it’s open to the public, so employees can still attend.”
Google would not comment on whether the petition played any role in pulling the sponsorship of the event.
While the Christian employees celebrated the win, the liberal horde was livid, claiming that the company had buckled to pressure from the Christian group.
