Republican and former GOP Rep. Mike Rogers of Michigan has just announced his plan to run for the Senate seat of Democrat Sen. Debbie Stabenow.

This is setting up to be a highly contested race that is likely to have major implications for the state and country as a whole.

Mike Rogers has long served in public office, including roles in the military, FBI special agent, and chairman of the House Select Committee on Intelligence.

He also expressed his opposition to Biden’s policies related to immigration and social engineering in schools during his announcement video.

In addition, he highlighted his background building cybersecurity companies and stated that America needs “common sense back to Washington” as an area of focus moving forward.

He has held various political positions since 2000 when he first became a state senator before securing his House seat that same year.

Rogers is one of several Republican hopefuls vying for this seat with Elissa Slotkin being the current frontrunner for her party’s primary election.

According to Ballotpedia, Stabenow was first elected to the Senate in 2000 and has remained there ever since; it will be difficult for any challenger from either party to take her spot without considerable support from voters across Michigan.

According to an Emerson College survey from early August 2020, Rogers is currently leading among GOP contenders with 12% support while former GOP Rep Peter Meijer had 9%, though Meijer launched an exploratory committee last week which will help him raise funds ahead of an official run if he chooses it pursue it further.

Slotkin leads with 34% support at present but would still lose against several Republicans like Rogers by 7 or 6 points respectively according to recent polls conducted by Emerson College (Ballotpedia).

Mike Rogers concluded his announcement video by saying “America is amazing, full of promise…Michigan’s way of life is worth defending” which resonates strongly with many people who live here or are familiar with all Michigan has accomplished over its long history.
