The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been funneling money into U.S. schools in the form of Confucius Institutes and other cultural and language programs to the tune of $17 million dollars, according to Parents Defending Education.
This disturbing development has caused Republicans to launch an investigation into these donations.
In their report titled ‘Little Red Classrooms’, PDE states that the CCP have ties to school districts close to 20 U.S. military bases, as well as three top science and technology high schools which have been infiltrated by China’s influence.
This massive move should concern parents, educators, and policymakers alike.
In response to this alarming evidence, Rep Jim Banks is demanding that the Education Department take action with ‘urgency’ in order to terminate these partnerships.
He wrote in a letter obtained by DailyMail.com that blocking China’s ability to propagate their message through our education system is vital for our national security.
The congressman also pointed out that under former President Donald Trump, the State Department designated Confucius Institutes a ‘foreign mission’ – a measure which helped shut down some of these dangerous programs.
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul said it was ridiculous there were not measures protecting our children from CCP influence – emphasizing how learning languages like Chinese is important but should not come with Communist propaganda attached.
FBI Director Chris Wray also warned against foreign state adversaries seeking academic research from universities without legitimate means.
This highlights further why such protective measures are necessary when it comes to dealing with China’s infiltration of American educational institutions at both college level and secondary level.
