Christopher Wray is getting to be a veteran witness at congressional hearings. He has ignoring all the tough questions down to practiced precision. No matter how hot the grilling, Chris manages to waffle and flip around like a pancake without saying anything at all.
Wray wants to be careful
When conservative New York lawmaker Elise Stefanik turned up the heat on FBI honcho Christopher Wray, grilling him about censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop, he admitted he was going to be tiptoeing around her questions. The hearing was supposed to be about “worldwide threats.”
While the FBI seems to think that boils down to Donald Trump and his MAGA type supporters, conservatives think the biggest threat is the FBI. After China. Everyone is scared of China except Joe Biden, Blinky Blinken and the Pentagon. They seem ready to start World War III simply to distract attention away from their failures.
Stefanik asked Wray point blank, “do you believe the Hunter Biden laptop story is disinformation?” Well, Chris replied, “I want to be careful. There is an ongoing investigation that is relevant to that. So I have to be careful of what I can share on that here.” She repeated her question.
FBI Director Christopher Wray just FALSELY claimed that the FBI did not censor the Hunter Biden laptop story.

“I don’t think there’s anything I can share on that in open setting.” He can but he won’t. She changed the phrasing, asking instead if “he was aware FBI personnel were in contact with Twitter regarding the Hunter Biden laptop story.” He went diagonal.
“I don’t believe FBI personnel were in contact with Twitter about the Hunter laptop story specifically. I think there were people in contact with Twitter about Russian disinformation efforts.” Isn’t that an answer to her first question? It indicates Wray thinks the laptop is in fact Russian disinformation. She noticed that.
“Of which Hunter Biden laptop story was included, according to the FBI.” Chris thought fast. “I don’t know exactly what you’re looking at, but I am happy to talk about what it is the FBI does and does not do with respect to social media companies.” Maybe someday. Call his secretary and make an appointment.

FBI had the laptop
Another thing Stefanik wanted to know is whether Wray “was aware the FBI was in possession of Hunter Biden’s laptop since December 2019.” Of course he was.
“I can’t speak to exactly when we had the laptop available. As you know, there is an ongoing investigation run by the U.S. Attorney out of Delaware from the prior administration that we continue to work very closely with…” Stefanik jumped in “And we have an ongoing investigation as well.”
He tried to pin the non-existent investigation on others “Our Baltimore field office is working very hard with that U.S. attorney. And I expect them to pursue that case as far as it takes…” She chops him off again.

“This stonewalling, Director Wray — the American people deserve answers, and this is unacceptable.” She decided to shift topics.
“Lastly,” she glared, “did you sign off on the Mar-a-Lago raid?” That was an easy one to duck. “Well, first off, it was not a raid. It was an execution of a search warrant,” Wray countered. “Did you sign off on the execution of the search warrant?” Stefanik countered. “May I finish,” Wray grumbled. “Second, I don’t sign off on individual search warrants in that case or in any other.” Okay then, “Did Attorney General Merrick Garland sign off to your awareness?” Another easy one. “I can’t speak to the attorney general.”
The final exchange began with the lawmaker quizzing “Was there dissent at senior levels of the FBI about the conducting of the search warrant?” Wray again said “he could not speak to internal discussion within the FBI or between the FBI and the Department of Justice.” Even “though it’s been reported in The Washington Post?” There “are a lot of things reported in the media,” Wray scoffed, noting that reports “may or may not be accurate.” They are.
