CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings squared off with CNN anchor Jake Tapper over President-elect Donald Trump’s plan for mass deportations.
Jennings pointed out that Democrats are freaking out over the plan, including many who argue that mass deportations would increase grocery prices due to the number of illegal aliens who work in agriculture — many of whom work in terrible conditions and in constant fear because their employers take advantage of the fact that they are illegal and therefore cannot report the crimes of the employers to the police. While Tapper tried to object to Jennings’ point about Democrats melting down over Trump enforcing immigration law, he ended up making the same argument.
“Who’s having a meltdown?” Tapper asked.
“Uhhhh — I mean, everybody seems to be on the same sheet of music today that this is going to mess up the agriculture industry and drive the grocery prices higher,” Jennings responded. “I’ve seen numerous pieces on it. I’ve seen everybody seems to be out there talking about it and so, it strikes me, Jake, that Democrats — this is their new line of attack, that Donald Trump’s got a plan to raise your grocery prices simply by following through on his campaign promises. And I don’t — I just don’t think it’s true.”
Tapper then pushed back, arguing: “I’ve been covering this issue since the first Bush administration in 2001. I mean, this is always one of the issues with it — is that there are a lot of undocumented immigrants who work for the agricultural sector and there’s always concerns about are those people actually going to be deported and, if so, what happens to prices for, you know, regular folk just trying to make a — make an honest living and buy some eggs.”

Meanwhile, there are plenty of Americans who could take over these jobs and earn money for their families if the Trump administration finally removes these illegal aliens from the United States. Regardless, the Trump administration has already explained that they would begin their mass deportation plan by targeting criminal illegal aliens — those who had committed additional crimes beyond their illegal entry into the U.S. — with Vice President-elect JD Vance explaining that these illegals who had committed crimes against Americans or those who already had standing deportation orders would be first in line for deportation.
Trump’s nominee for border Czar, former ICE director Tom Homan, has made similar pronouncements about the administration’s plan for deportations:

“Well, she's not very smart, I'll give her that because I just… President Trump's going to prioritize public safety threats.”
