During his victory speech, Ron DeSantis declared Florida is where woke goes to die.
Well, an Obama judge just brought woke back to life.
In a blistering decision, he called the Florida legislation “dystopian.”
Not Just Yet
Judge Mark Walker stated, “The law officially bans professors from expressing disfavored viewpoints in university classrooms while permitting unfettered expression of the opposite viewpoints.
“Defendants argue that, under this Act, professors enjoy ‘academic freedom’ so long as they express only those viewpoints of which the State approves.”
A DeSantis spokesperson responded, “We strongly disagree with Judge Walker’s preliminary injunction orders on the enforcement of the Stop W.O.K.E. Act and will continue to fight.”
The ACLU, however, loved the decision, stating, “The First Amendment broadly protects our right to share information and ideas, and this includes educators’ and students’ right to learn, discuss, and debate systemic racism and sexism.”
I continue to be amazed at how much power our courts have over legislation that has been appropriately passed through state and federal legislatures.
I can see challenging executive orders, but this just makes no sense at all.
