The 2024 presidential election had a bit of a surprise dropped on Sunday night.
During Trey Gowdy’s segment on Fox News, Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) announced that he was suspending his campaign.
This clearly caught Gowdy, who is a longtime friend of Scott’s, by surprise.
Big Surprise
I think most people thought Scott would stay in this race through South Carolina just to see how he fared.
Scott has decided that after three debates and still hanging around five percent, he would call it quits.
He told Gowdy, “But when I go back to Iowa, it will not be as a presidential candidate.
“I am suspending my campaign.
“I think the voters, who are the most remarkable people on the planet have been really clear that they’re telling me, ‘Not now, Tim.’ I don’t think they’re saying, Trey, ‘No,’ but I do think they’re saying, ‘Not now.’
“So, I’m gonna respect the voters and I’m gonna hold on and keep working really hard, and look forward to the other opportunity.”
Gowdy was stunned, responding, “You are– you are suspending your presidential campaign?
“You have plenty of money.
“You have the highest approval of any candidate that is running and you’re– you’re a couple of states from coming to a state where you are beloved, and you are suspending your presidential campaign?”
Scott went on to say that he would not be endorsing any candidate in the primary race.
If Donald Trump is smart, he will make a move on Scott right now to get him as his VP to counter any moves made by DeSantis or Haley.
