Secretary Mayorkas Finally Gave In…

ICYMI – Secretary Mayorkas has not used any word other than “secure” to describe our border.

That finally changed.

While being drilled by Senator Portman (R-OH), Mayorkas finally gave in, just a bit.

Challenge

Mayorkas wavered on the border being secure.

First, he did not even say it was secure, which is a big change.

Then, while he called our situation challenging, he actually used the word crisis on a more global scale.

Portman asked, “Is the southern border currently in crisis, yes or no?”

Mayorkas responded, “The entire hemisphere is suffering a migration crisis.

“We are seeing an unprecedented movement of people from country to country.

“It is not restricted to the southern border.

“We are seeing an unprecedented movement of people throughout the Western hemisphere.”

Portman came right back at him, “I would ask you for a yes or no answer [on] the southern border.

“I’ve been to Colombia twice in the last year, I’m very aware of what’s going on with regard to the displaced people out of Venezuela, and for that matter, Nicaragua and Cuba.

“But the question is all the more pressing. So what are we doing about it? Shouldn’t we be changing our policies at the border to deal with it? … So my question to you again is, is the southern border currently in crisis, yes or no?”

Mayorkas responded, “We are seeing a significant challenge at the southern border, as we are seeing it throughout the hemisphere.”

If we keep this up for another two years, he might actually admit we have a crisis on our hands!
