On Wednesday, the FBI shot and killed an elderly handicapped man in Provo, Utah after reportedly raiding his home in connection with a number of threatening posts made against President Biden and other elected officials on Facebook.
In the aftermath of this deadly raid, citizens have questioned why such heavy-handed tactics were used while many celebrities who had threatened former President Trump’s life (including Kathy Griffin, Snoop Dogg and Madonna) went unpunished.
Kathy Griffin was one celebrity who faced some consequences for her actions when she posted a picture of a severed head resembling then-President Donald Trump.
She was questioned by the Secret Service but no additional action was taken.
Rapper Snoop Dogg also posted a video where he held up a gun to an actor portraying then-President Trump before pulling the trigger – again leading to no consequences whatsoever.
Other stars including Robert DeNiro, George Lopez and Mickey Rourke all made violent threats against the former president yet none of these instances led to any repercussions either.
Clearly there is at least some double standards being applied here – why is it that thousands of regular citizens who had threatened Trump throughout his presidency weren’t met with pre-dawn FBI raids or deadly force?
When news first broke about the deadly raid on Craig Robertson’s home, citizens began questioning why such heavy-handed tactics were employed especially considering Robertson allegedly used a cane to get around and could move “no faster than 1 mph” according to one neighbor’s report.
It seems as though other alternatives could have been explored before resorting to this kind of drastic action which ultimately resulted in tragedy.
It appears that those responsible for making decisions believe themselves above reproach or exempt from any moral obligations when it comes to dealing with matters involving their own political preferences or agendas.
The lack of consequences for celebrities and others who had threatened former President Trump has raised questions about government accountability and what appears as selective enforcement when it comes to laws protecting public figures from harm or potential danger.
