In a shocking display of the callousness of the left, Democrat strategist David Axelrod stated that Trump supporters impacted by Hurricane Helene aren’t resourceful enough to figure out how to vote, but “upscale” Democrat voters will “figure out a way.”
Axelrod made the abhorrent remarks during a recent podcast appearance while discussing the effects of Hurricane Helene on North Carolina, especially what the hurricane could mean for the upcoming November election.
The former chief strategist for Barack Obama’s campaigns was speaking about Asheville, North Carolina — a city in Buncombe County, which voted overwhelmingly for President Joe Biden in 2020 — stating that the city’s residents would be smart enough to “figure out a way” to get their votes in for the Democrat nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Those voters in Asheville are — they’re, you know, the kind of voters who will figure out a way to vote,” Axelrod said, adding: “You know, they’re upscale, kind of liberal voters, and they’re probably going to figure out a way to vote.”
He then pointed out that supporters of former President Donald Trump “who’ve had their homes and lives destroyed” probably aren’t capable of getting their votes in.
“I’m not sure a bunch of these folks who’ve had their homes and lives destroyed elsewhere in western North Carolina — in the mountains there — are gonna be as easy to wrangle for the Trump campaign,” Axelrod said.
He also said that the effects of Hurricane Helene are going to make the election “a little more interesting.”
“I don’t know how that’s all going to play out, but it’s an unpredictable element in North Carolina that has made it maybe a little more interesting” in the lead-up to the November election, Axelrod added.
Axelrod went on to express concern for Democrats, pointing out that “northern-tier battleground states other than Wisconsin are scary” and “you can’t count on them” to swing in Harris’ favor. He then emphasized that the Democrat nominee “needs to find an insurance policy” and a “second act” ahead of the November election.
Of course, Axelrod’s shocking comments prompted backlash on social media, with Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk noting that “Democrats think the devastation in North Carolina will help them win.”

“On his podcast @davidaxelrod says Democrat voters in Asheville, North Carolina are smarter, wealthier and will still show up to vote for Kamala while he thinks Trump voters won’t. This is why Kamala and Biden aren’t helping, they benefit from the disaster,” wrote Outkick founder Clay Travis.

Fox News contributor Tammy Bruce also called out Axelrod for his callous remarks, asking: “Did ya know that famous Democrat operative David Axelrod figures city Democrats are smarter and more resourceful and will figure out how to vote whereas the dumb Trump deplorables up in the mountains of NC who just lost everything, won’t. Was he on the verge of a Kamala cackle?”

Axelrod responded to criticism by complaining about Donald Trump.
“It is remarkable the degree to which Trump can brazenly sell utter lies, despite all the evidence to the contrary. Latest: Hurricane-plagued states of GA and NC (battleground states, for those who aren’t following along) were deprived of rescue money because immigrants had taken it all. None of it even remotely true,” he claimed.
