Speaker Johnson Demands Consequences, Initiates Investigation

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) is demanding that the pro-Hamas rioters who terrorized Washington, D.C., over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech be arrested and jailed for their actions.

The anti-Israel, pro-Hamas activists were seen rampaging through the nation’s capital on Wednesday, burning American flags, chanting “Allahu Akbar” and even outright expressing support for Hamas terrorists.

The rioters also attacked police officers, yet they aren’t facing any serious punishment — unlike the thousands of peaceful Trump supporters who were beaten by officers, imprisoned, and held in jail without trial following the January 6 Capitol protests.

The riot was so unruly that U.S. Capitol Police officers reportedly used pepper spray on the rioters, but they still won’t face any legal consequences.

The Blaze national correspondent Julio Rosas reported that “a DC law enforcement source” told him that “charges against four people, including a 15-year-old, who were arrested for assaulting police officers during yesterday’s riot were dropped.”

Now, Johnson is demanding that the rioters face consequences, telling Fox News host Dana Perino that he agrees with Netanyahu’s comments during the speech about the anti-Israel protesters being “useful idiots for Iran” — as reports have indicated that the terrorist-supporting nation has been funding the riots through proxies.

“Look, we respect free speech, of course, but they are desecrating monuments, destroying public property, and they need to be arrested and sent to jail if they’re going to act like that and support a bloodthirsty terrorist regime,” the House Speaker told Perino. “They are, in fact, what Prime Minister Netanyahu said in his speech yesterday: useful idiots for the cause of Iran.”

On 23 rioters were arrested during the pro-Hamas insurrection, with charges including assault on a police officer and crossing a police line, but many expect all of the charges to be dropped, just as they have been for past leftist riots.

Johnson told Perino that House Republicans are investigating the incident and looking into the charges, but noted that he is grateful that there were no disruptive protests inside the Capitol during Netanyahu’s speech. In a “dear colleagues” letter on Tuesday, Johnson warned lawmakers not to disrupt the Israeli prime minister’s speech and to keep their guests under control as well.

“I made it clear to our colleagues we would have zero tolerance for disturbances inside the chamber during the prime minister’s address, and I’m grateful that all that was heeded,” Johnson said.

However, there were silent protests from lawmakers during the speech, including from radical Hamas supporting Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), who held up a sign that read “War Criminal.”

While it is likely that House Republicans will investigate the riots and issue strong condemnation of the rioters, it is highly unlikely that they will actually take any action to force the rioters to face consequences — both because they will be stymied by the Biden administration and because many weak Republicans will refuse to act.
