The deficit for the fiscal year 2023 came in at a record $1.7 trillion – not including President Biden’s revised student loan plan, which would cost an estimated $475 billion over ten years, according to recent studies. Johnson argued that reining in federal spending would help combat this growing issue while also bringing relief to American citizens struggling with rising living costs due to increasing prices and credit card rates since 2001.
