Asa Hutchinson, a former Arkansas governor and current 2024 Republican candidate for President of the United States, has called on Donald Trump to drop out of the race for the White House.
In an interview with ABC News’s “This Week”, Hutchinson argued that due to ongoing investigations surrounding him, it is not fair to the country or party that he remain in contention as it undermines “the greatest justice system and criminal justice system and rule of law in the world today.”
He further urged Trump to put his own candidacy second to what is best for America.
Hutchinson announced his intention to run during a rally in his hometown of Bentonville. During this announcement he highlighted his experience and record: from Congress to Homeland Security and as Governor of Arkansas where taxes were cut whilst creating surplus funds, pay was increased for teachers, regulations reduced and private sector jobs grew by over 100,000.
He believes that now is a time when we should “seek new frontiers” and “channel the restless waves into more freedom and prosperity”.
Hutchinson was vocal about members of the Republican Party claiming that the Department of Justice had been weaponized against Trump – citing Trump’s declaration that if re-elected he would appoint a special prosecutor to go after Biden’s family as evidence towards this accusation.
This sentiment has been echoed by many other Republicans who believe supporting such values not only allows us to stand up against injustice but also keeps our democracy intact.
It is because these core principles are so embedded within our society that Hutchinson urges President Trump step aside from his presidential bid despite any personal ambitions or goals related to running again.
Ultimately though it will be down to each individual voter come November 2024 who decides who they want representing their country at home and abroad for four years but until then let us continue striving towards ensuring everyone has access to equality under the law no matter their political persuasion or background.
