President Donald Trump’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has fired four FEMA employees after they purposely sent taxpayer funds to house illegal aliens in “luxury” hotels despite Trump ordering that the agency stop prioritizing illegals over Americans in the allocation of taxpayer money.
The revelation came in an X post from Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) leader Elon Musk, who informed Americans that FEMA had just sent $59 million to luxury hotels to house illegal aliens last week, two weeks after Trump took office and put a stop to funding for illegals.
“The [DOGE] team just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants,” Musk wrote. “Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order.”
“That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high end hotels for illegals! A clawback demand will be made today to recoup those funds,” he added.

Acting FEMA Director Cameron Hamilton immediately responded to Musk’s revelation, noting that the payments had been suspended and those who authorized them would face punishment.
That punishment came on February 11, when DHS announced that it had fired FEMA’s chief financial officer Mary Comans, two program analysts, and a grant supervisor. All four of these individuals had taken part in facilitating the payments for housing illegal aliens in luxury hotels without approval or authorization.
“Effective immediately, FEMA is terminating the employment of four individuals for circumventing leadership to unilaterally make egregious payments for luxury NYC hotels for migrants,” the DHS statement read. “Under President Trump and Secretary Noem’s leadership, DHS will not sit idly and allow deep state activists to undermine the will and safety of the American people.”

Following Comans’ firing, social media was quick to find a video of her claiming that her role was to “ensure the best use of the resources entrusted to us” — with X account “Road To The Election” pointing out the irony, as “she was just fired for gross mismanagement, misuse of taxpayer dollars, and insubordination—after diverting tens of millions to illegal criminals.”

Meanwhile, Trump has responded to the mismanagement of funds by arguing that FEMA should be abolished entirely and asserting that the agency’s role should be returned to the states.
“FEMA spent tens of millions of dollars in Democrat areas, disobeying orders, but left the people of North Carolina high and dry,” the president wrote in a post on Truth Social. “It is now under review and investigation. THE BIDEN RUN FEMA HAS BEEN A DISASTER. FEMA SHOULD BE TERMINATED! IT HAS BEEN SLOW AND TOTALLY INEFFECTIVE. INDIVIDUAL STATES SHOULD HANDLE STORMS, ETC., AS THEY COME. BIG SAVINGS, FAR MORE EFFICIENT!!!”
