Trump Signs Executive Order On ‘Expanding Access To IVF’

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order calling for expanding Americans’ access to in vitro fertilization (IVF).

On February 18, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that Trump had signed an executive order requesting policy recommendations that would make it easier for American families to access IVF and to “aggressively reduce out-of-pocket and health plan costs for such treatments.”

Data from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine shows that just one cycle of the procedure costs a staggering $15,000.

Trump’s executive order states: “Within 90 days of the date of this order, the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy shall submit to the President a list of policy recommendations on protecting IVF access and aggressively reducing out-of-pocket and health plan costs for IVF treatment.”

The order went on to emphasize the necessity to fix policies that have increased IVF costs, while also emphasizing the importance of families. It also stresses the need for public policy that will make it easier for couples to have children.

“Today, many hopeful couples dream of starting a family, but as many as one in seven are unable to conceive a child,” the order states. “Despite their hopes and efforts, infertility struggles can make conception difficult, turning what should be a joyful experience into an emotional and financial struggle.  My Administration recognizes the importance of family formation, and as a Nation, our public policy must make it easier for loving and longing mothers and fathers to have children.”

“In vitro fertilization (IVF) offers hope to men and women experiencing fertility challenges,” the executive order continues. “Americans need reliable access to IVF and more affordable treatment options, as the cost per cycle can range from $12,000 to $25,000.  Providing support, awareness, and access to affordable fertility treatments can help these families navigate their path to parenthood with hope and confidence.”

Leavitt celebrated Trump’s decision in a post on X, writing: “PROMISES MADE. PROMISES KEPT.”

Trump promised repeatedly on the campaign trail to expand access to IVF:

Despite these promises, Democrats repeatedly lied to the American people, claiming that Trump and Republicans wanted to ban IVF. Many on social media highlighted these lies from Democrats while celebrating Trump’s executive order:

Meanwhile, the executive order has prompted backlash from some on the right, with many highlighting the fact that IVF is not compatible with the pro-life movement.

“IVF ends human life at a higher rate than abortion. For the 1 million people who have been born because of IVF, 1.7 million other babies have been frozen, destroyed, or donated for experimentation. IVF is NOT pro-life, pro-baby, or pro-family!” wrote Live Action, a pro-life organization.

Others celebrated the decision as a victory for families, pointing out that American citizens need to start procreating more, as the birth rate has declined significantly.

“This is amazing. Making IVF more affordable and accessible!! America, make more babies!!!” one user wrote.
