Leavitt Details Trump Admin’s Massive Tax Cut Priorities

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has outlined President Donald Trump’s plans to pass the largest middle-class tax cut in American history.

During a conversation with reporters outside of the White House on February 6, Leavitt provided the media with a list of all of Trump’s “tax priorities” — which include eliminating taxes on tips, Social Security, and overtime pay. The plan also includes reinstating Trump’s 2017 middle class tax cuts, adjusting the SALT cap, eliminating tax breaks for billionaire sports team owners, ending the carried interest loophole, and reducing taxes on products made in America.

“This will be the largest tax cut in history for middle-class working Americans,” Leavitt explained. “The president is committed to working with Congress to get this done.”

The press conference came soon after Trump had a private meeting with Republican lawmakers at the White House, where they reportedly discussed the plan for tax cuts and spending. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) previously agreed to pass tax cuts by the end of April, but with the deadline approaching, House Republicans are reportedly discussing short-term solutions for tax cuts.

“We’re stuck in the mud,” Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) told CNBC in an interview on February 5. “There’s a lot of, what do they call it, paralysis of analysis? And I think at this point, we need to just make a clear decision.”

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) outlined the discussions in a statement, noting: “We have had conversations, including last night, about, do we do five-year tax policy? Do we do five-year policy for some, permanent/ten-year for others? I think we’re working on that. Those are the levers to pull to try to figure out the math.”

Meanwhile, a bill has already been introduced by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) that would achieve one of Trump’s tax goals: ending the tax on Social Security benefits.

“Seniors work the majority of their adult lives so that they can spend their retirement comfortably,” Tuberville explained in a statement to Breitbart News before introducing the bill. “In a day and age where the cost of living has skyrocketed, our seniors should not experience a second tax on their Social Security, when they’ve already paid income tax on their paychecks.”

A companion bill was also introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY).
