An Amish man was arrested following an incident where he hit a police car with his horse and buggy in addition to being found asleep next to a Bud Light can.
This incident occurred in Orwell, Ohio at the early hour of 2:30 a.m.
Authorities responded to multiple emergency calls that claimed there was a horse and buggy being driven very erratically on the road.
WKYC-TV acquired the body camera video from Ashtabula Sheriff Deputy Mike Talbert, who had responded to the emergency calls.
In the video you can see Talbert attempting to get the horse and buggy to pull off on the side of the road.
“There is a Bud Light can sitting in there, and he’s passed cleaned out,” Talbert says on the video. “We got a drunk Amish guy passed out in a buggy.”
Interestingly, a few reports shared that the buggy was actually driving on the wrong side of the road.
“He just turned eastbound on Bogue, and I yelled at the guy when he rode by,” Talbert said at another point of the video. “There is a Bud Light can sitting in the damn buggy, and I hit the side of the buggy and hollered at the guy. He’s passed clean out. He’s slumped over.”
During the video, the officer can be heard telling dispatchers that he will be able to stop the buggy, however he quickly corrects himself as the buggy directly hits his car.
“I have it stopped. Nope, disregard. He just rammed it into my car,” Talbert said.
As the buggy hits the police cruiser, the driver was seen being ejected during the collision.
The man was identified as Nathan Miller, who registered a .063% on a breathalyzer test after refusing a field sobriety test.
Nathan Miller was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Thankfully, while the man suffered a few minor scrapes, the officer and horse remained uninjured.
Ashtabula Sheriff William Niemi mentioned that it was quite unusual for the officer to have this kind of traffic stop.
