Recently, a model for the apparel brand EdgyLittlePieces uploaded several videos to their TikTok account featuring the company’s “best-selling funeral dress.”

According to reports from The New York Post, this sparked outrage and backlash amongst many social media users.

The “funeral dress” is a fitted halter mini-dress with big cutouts that reveal the cleavage and torso of whoever is wearing it.

The straps crisscross down their neck, chest, and stomach in an interesting pattern.

In one of her videos, the model suggests how to wear the dress by noting that you may tighten the straps to make it “super modest for the funeral, then loosen it back down for the after-party.”

Clearly, her intention was to gain free publicity in what seemed like an attempt at humor but ended up as offense instead.

When one of her followers asked for advice on what type of outfit would be suitable for a funeral service, she answered with a video wearing this dress herself.

Her response only further enraged commenters who found this entirely inappropriate for such a somber occasion.

One person even went so far as to criticize women who are part of the feminist movement and would actually don this item of clothing in public.

It is understandable why many people felt that there was no place for something like this at a solemn event like a funeral service–after all, modesty is expected out of respect for those present and mourning over someone’s passing.

However, some individuals grasped that perhaps she was joking around in order to give her brand more exposure.

Unfortunately sarcasm can often be lost on people when conveyed through text or social media posts alone due to lack of context clues or tone inflection indicators.

So what do you think? Did this influencer go too far?
