Houston… we have a problem.
We all wanted to see House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) replaced in her leadership position.
What we did not want to see was a member of the far-left faction of the group be the one to take over.
Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened.
Rep. Hakeem Jeffries is the anointed one, and there is already reason to be worried about the party going much further to the left.
Read the Signs
In announcing his desire to take over leadership, Jeffries wrote to his caucus, stating, “Today, I write to humbly ask for your support for the position of House Democratic Leader as we once again prepare to meet the moment.
“Our Caucus must unify with purpose, communicate with discipline, legislate with precision and partner with the Biden administration to vigorously address the continuing challenges impacting our constituents.”
The statement that scared me, however, was his comment about AOC.
He stated, “I have great respect for Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and every single member of the House Democratic Caucus.
“The majesty of the House Democratic Caucus is that we are so incredibly diverse, in terms of race and gender and religion and sexual orientation, region, life experience, and even ideology from the left to progressives, New Dems, Blue Dogs, moderate and centrist Democrats, all points in between.”
That tells me he plans to give AOC a much bigger voice in the caucus, which is bad news for conservatives.
Jeffries is dangerous enough, but if AOC gets some power, well, we will never get a single vote out of Democrats for legislation.
