There has been a trend developing over the last few years that has finally broken Chief Justice Roberts.

We have seen justices calling out other justices in their opinions and every time it happens, the media makes it out to be a massive rift on the court.

Roberts, however, is not telling the media to dial back the rhetoric because these opinions are merely disagreements on opinion, nothing more.

According to Roberts, there is no “issue” on the court in that regard.

Knock It Off

In recent weeks, I have seen several dissents that lacked correct information.

Justice Sotomayor may be the biggest culprit in this, blatantly twisting events to support her narrative during her dissent.

Justice Kagan had also written a venomous dissent, showing that the bad feelings among justices that started to surface when the leak of the Roe v. Wade overturing was leaked are still present.

These dissents have come off in the media as though there is a major rift on the court.

Roberts addressed the venomous attacks in opinions with his own address.

He stated, “It has become a disturbing feature of some recent opinions to criticize the decisions with which they disagree as going beyond the proper role of the judiciary.

“It is important that the public not be misled either.

“Any such misperception would be harmful to this institution and our country.”

Roberts then specifically addressed the nasty dissenting opinion from the liberal side of the court.

He stated, “We have employed the traditional tools of judicial decision-making in doing so.

“Reasonable minds may disagree with our analysis — in fact, at least three do.

“We do not mistake this plainly heartfelt disagreement for disparagement.

“It is important that the public not be misled either.

“Any such misperception would be harmful to this institution and our country.”

I am not sure I am buying his reasoning, as it would be rather difficult to brush off some of these dissenting opinions and anything but a personal attack.
