A former Trump-backed gubernatorial candidate is back in the news.
Darren Bailey, who Trump backed against Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker in the 2022 cycle, is back at it.
After losing the governor’s race, Bailey is now hoping to grab a seat in the House.
Let’ Do This
The conjecture that Bailey was going to run started with the run into the holiday weekend.
Invitations went out for an event at Bailey’s farm.
A friend told the Washington Examiner, “I’m 90% sure Darren is running, and if he does, I am confident he will win our district because he genuinely cares about and represents southern Illinois.
“No one will work or fight harder on the campaign trail or in Congress than Darren Bailey.”
That conjecture ended up being true, as Bailey did announce his candidacy at the function.
The big challenge in this race for Bailey will be getting past the primary.
He will be running against incumbent Rep. Mike Post (R-IL).
Even with that Trump endorsement, unseating an incumbent is never easy.
If he can manage to do that, he should have a very good shot of nailing down that seat.
