It’s the dream of many Americans out there: being able to buy your own house. And luckily, this couple had just achieved that dream. Unfortunately for them, however, the house came with much more than they had bargained for.
When Cathy and Roy Aukamp, a couple from New Jersey, moved into their new home they were expecting the usual boxes and furniture. But they got an unexpected surprise when their basement flooded following a storm: 99 bottles of rum hidden behind the drywall
The couple had only been living in their house for two days when the flood happened. When Roy went to remove the wet plasterboard he found that many empty bottles of alcohol tumbled out of one wall.
As if that wasn’t strange enough, it turns out that this was just the start of what appeared to be a never-ending stream of booze

Cathy can be heard in a video recording saying “Thirsty? It’s five o’clock somewhere!” as she laughs at the bizarre discovery. They posted about it on Instagram leading to people joking that “they bought a house from Captain Morgan himself.”
Others though noted there was nothing funny about addiction which may have been why these drinks were hidden away in the first place.
Surprisingly, after going viral with their post, Cathy revealed that the previous homeowner reached out to them. He said not only were there more than 99 bottles but he was now three years sober.
This is certainly inspiring news for anyone struggling with addiction who may need some hope right now.
The Aukamps are not alone in finding strange items hidden inside walls either – other homeowners have discovered cigarettes and Viagra stashed away too.
One man even stumbled across a woodpecker’s collection totaling around 700 pounds worth of acorns stored up inside his wall cavities… proving yet again you never know what you might find when renovating your home. Snakes have also been found slithering behind artwork or burrowing through drywall – so always keep your eyes open next time you’re doing work on your home just incase something unusual pops up.
