On Monday, October 2, a group of brazen thieves made the decision to drive to the Trump National Doral Miami golf resort and 60 generators from the resort twice in a single day. The first incident took place in the afternoon, where 30 generators were stolen before the group returned 5 hours later to take the other 30.

Security cameras caught footage of a white F-150 pickup truck entering the resort’s maintenance area and a photo of it with all of its bed full of generators was released by WPLG-TV in Miami. It is believed that there may have been four criminals involved and they posed as construction workers to gain access to the area during their daylight raid.

That night, they cut through fencing to get back into the property before leaving again with their bounty.

Police Chief Edwin Lopez stated that security had been present onsite throughout both thefts but this did not deter these criminals from carrying out their plan. He also suggested that there may be insider involvement as the area where these generators were stored was vulnerable yet still accessed twice on the same day without much difficulty.

The Police are actively searching for clues which could point them towards those responsible but so far no progress has been made in this regard.

This crime does appear to be part of a larger trend occurring across South Florida as similar thefts have taken place over recent years.

In March 2018 WPLG reported on one incident involving two thieves stealing a single large generator valued at fifty thousand dollars using nothing more than a van, while another case emerged in October 2018 where two men drove off with a generator near Deerfield Beach after opening up a gate with an F-250 pickup truck according to reports from The Miami Herald.

It appears then that these criminal activities are becoming increasingly commonplace despite law enforcement’s best efforts thus far.
