This father decided to purchase a used vehicle for his daughter’s 16th birthday. After buying the car, he discovered a handwritten note in the glove box. When he read the message he realized he couldn’t let his daughter have the car.
When Kevin Duke gifted his daughter, Jada, her first car for her 16th birthday, he had no idea that it would change his life forever. While he was cleaning the inside of the little silver sedan, he stumbled upon an envelope in the glove box containing a lengthy handwritten note from its previous owner.
The letter detailed how the car belonged to her mother who tragically died along with her 6-year-old daughter and aunt in a house fire; it was their only connection to them both. With just this information to go on, Kevin set out to find the author and reunite her with the beloved vehicle in an emotional reunion – one which could only have been made possible through compassion and kindness.

Kevin Duke’s story is proof that even complete strangers can come together to mend a broken heart if they are inspired by compassion. The note from its previous owner began with a bombshell – that it belonged to Sabrina Archey’s mother who sadly passed away in a house fire alongside Sabrina’s 6-year-old daughter and aunt.
This car – named Sylvia – held many memories for Sabrina; she urged whoever got it next not to forget “to love like we did” as she pleaded for them to contact her if they wished to sell it so she could buy it back somehow.
The power of social media saw Kevin’s post go viral which ultimately enabled him to make contact with Sabrina herself. Thanks to Tammi Warrington setting up a GoFundMe account and raising enough money cover the costs of handing over the keys back over, an emotional reunion ensued where tears of joy were shed as Sabrina thanked Kevin for restoring an item filled with such precious memories of her mother and daughter.
They even went out for one last spin around town before saying goodbye.
