The Harris campaign scrambled on Tuesday after her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), declared that the “Electoral College needs to go.”

During two different campaign fundraisers held on the West Coast, Walz declared his support for abolishing the Electoral College — claiming that it forces candidates to give too much attention to just a few battleground states.

“I think all of us know, the Electoral College needs to go. We need a national popular vote,” Walz told donors gathered at Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) home in Sacramento, California. “So we need to win Beaver County, Pennsylvania. We need to be able to go into York, Pennsylvania, and win. We need to be in western Wisconsin and win. We need to be in Reno, Nevada, and win.”

At an earlier event, Walz reportedly told supporters that he is “a national popular vote guy, but that’s not the world we live in.”

The Harris campaign scrambled in response to the reported comments, releasing a statement claiming that they do not support abolishing the Electoral College.

“Governor Walz believes that every vote matters in the Electoral College and he is honored to be traveling the country and battleground states working to earn support for the Harris-Walz ticket,” the statement claimed.

“He was commenting to a crowd of strong supporters about how the campaign is built to win 270 electoral votes. And, he was thanking them for their support that is helping fund those efforts,” the statement continued.

Despite the attempted cover-up, Walz has previously made numerous comments in support of eliminating the Electoral College in favor of the popular vote, effectively allowing the residents of the massive deep-blue cities control who is elected as president. In May 2023, Walz even went as far as to sign the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact into law — which made Minnesota the 17th state to agree to eliminate the Electoral College.

Social media users were quick to slam Walz, and the Democrat Party in general, for pretending that their opponents are the threats to this country while they are the ones trying to destroy the Constitution and our constitutional republic.
