Well, the moment we have all been waiting for is about to happen.
Reports surfaced this week that Ron DeSantis is finally going to dip his toes into the presidential election pool.
DeSantis will be launching an exploratory committee at some point next month.
Let’s Go!
DeSantis’ allies have been pressuring him to get into this race, but he has held firm that he is not entering until the legislative session in Florida is ended.
With next week wrapping things, DeSantis is expected to launch his committee the following week.
An announcement will take place soon after that, with the date of May 11 already being floated as a possibility.
DeSantis will join what is already becoming a very crowded field.
In addition to Trump, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, businessman Perry Johnson, and former California gubernatorial candidate Larry Elder have all announced.
The only candidate in that field other than DeSantis and Trump that is getting any traction is Nikki Haley, and she is barely getting the needle to move.
I would still caution against Haley, however, as I think she could be this year’s Chris Christie in terms of having something worked out with Trump.
Don’t be surprised to see her hang around just long enough to take some delegates away in key early states, then bow out to Trump.
I don’t know about you guys, but I am just looking forward to seeing Trump and DeSantis finally square off.
