New York City Mayor Eric Adams proved that he’s a Democrat with his solution to the shoplifting crisis. Conservatives say this proves he’s totally lost his mind. He wants to combat rampant retail theft by installing some Social Service “kiosks.”
Shoplifting de-escalation
Mayor Eric Adams has gotten used to criticism of his methods but the latest liberal way to “combat shoplifting and crime at retail stores throughout the city” involves four major things to focus on, which his staff “laid out in bullet point format.”
The first idea is “De-escalation training for retail employees.” He also recommends “putting kiosks in stores.” Not just any cheesy little booth, one that can connect “would-be thieves” to social service.
If you’re having a jones to score some Tide by the cartload to sell on the street for fentanyl money, just pop over to the kiosk and New York City social workers will hook you up with whatever you need.

Shoplifting will soon be a thing of the past, Adams proclaims. That’s because there will be no more shops to lift from. On social media, the response was relentless.
Twitter users, Fox News reports “mocked the mayor for his soft, unrealistic plan that seemed no harsher than putting unruly children in a ‘time out corner,‘ as one described.”
Other’s, they say, “argued that the mayor’s plan would make the city more ‘dangerous‘ than it has already become.” Shoplifting can be a hazard to employee health in the retail profession. They’ll shoot you over a can of gravy.

Four key actions
One “conservative Twitter influencer” was nice enough to provide a screenshot of the mayor’s shoplifting prevention plan on Friday, May 19. Adams came up with “four key actions.” First, he would give “first-time offenders intervention programs instead of prosecution.”
Then, he would provide “de-escalation training for retail employees,” “establish neighborhood retail watch groups to share theft info,” and “install kiosks in stores to connect would-be thieves w/ social service programs.” How progressive can you get?
Retailers note the lack of the word police in any of that and are making plans to move someplace more Republican. The screenshot sharing pundit simply noted, “these are not serious people.” The comments showed no mercy to the shoplifting friendly program.

Stephen L. Miller, who’s a contributing editor for The Spectator “called it a glorified version of the defund the police initiative.” As the merchants noticed instantly, there is “no serious crackdown or punishment implemented in the plan.” As Miller tweeted, “anything but police is still Defunding the police.”
Separately, he tore down the whole shoplifting kiosk scheme point by liberally insane point. “The best one is ‘de-escalation training for employees.‘ ‘Hey you’re stealing our stuff.‘ ‘F— off, get out of my way or I shiv your a**.‘ ‘Hey let’s talk this out.‘” Writer Saul Montes-Bradley summed it up best.”In other words…bend over and take it like a champ. This is madness.”
As Breitbart scoffs, “notice, the very first part of this Democrat Mayor’s response to soaring shoplifting losses in NYC is to lessen punishment for first-time shoplifters. (He might as well provide first-time shoplifters with bags they can use to carry stolen merchandise out.)“
