I have to admit, when I first read this report, I just about lost my mind.

As it turns out, this is largely a pro forma move that will come back around.

Trump-appointed US District Judge Maryellen Noreika dismissed the misdemeanor tax charges against Hunter Biden.

Reason being that Special Counsel David Weiss believes he will have to be tried in Washington D.C. or Southern California for those charges.

The Plea Deal

This is all a result of the original plea deal falling apart for Hunter Biden.

His attorneys wanted a deal that would have given Hunter immunity from charges in future cases.

Neither the judge nor prosecutors were going to sign off on that, so the plea deal fell apart and Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Weiss was the US Attorney that was investigating the case in Delaware, but Garland elevated him to special counsel per Weiss’ request.

The tax case is a fairly large one, with Hunter reportedly having owed the government more than $2.2 million from more than $8 million that was earned between 2014 and 2019.

Donald Trump nominated Weiss to serve as the US Attorney in Delaware.

Advising Trump on the hire were Senators Chris Coons and Tom Carper, both Democrats, and both big allies of Joe Biden.

So, it looks like Trump may have been outsmarted on this by Democrats who were looking to play the long game.
