During the White House Hanukkah celebration, President Joe Biden falsely claimed that he had “gotten over 100 hostages out” of the hands of Hamas terrorists in Gaza.
On Monday, Biden falsely claimed that his administration had aided in the release of more than 100 hostages who were taken from Israel during the horrific October 7 Hamas massacre. In the speech, Biden referenced the 2023 attack where more than 1,200 Israelis were murdered; dozens more were sexually assaulted and tortured; and hundreds were kidnapped and taken to Gaza.
Biden then claimed credit for returning more than 100 of the 251 people who were taken hostage.
“The trauma of that day and its aftermath is still raw and ongoing,” Biden said, referring to October 7th. “I’ve gotten over 100 hostages out. I will not stop until I get every single one of them home.”

This was obviously a lie, as 117 of the 251 hostages have been returned to Israel thus far — but Biden played little to no part in those returns. Reports indicate that eight of the hostages had been rescued by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), four were released by the terrorist captors, and 105 were released as part of a failed ceasefire agreement between the Hamas terrorist group and Israel.
Biden was slammed on social media by critics over his false claim, with many arguing that he was lying in order to inflate his role in the negotiations to add a positive note to his failed legacy.
“To be clear, Biden is lying,” wrote Andrew Follett, senior analyst at the economic freedom-focused Club For Growth PAC.
