JFK Assassination Documents RELEASED

The National Archives released thousands of documents on the 1963  JFK assassination. This was after an order from President Joe Biden approving the release of the previously classified records.

In 1992 Congress passed a bill that required the release of all government records on the assassination event by October of 2017. Both Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden extended that timeline. However, Biden granted exemptions to thousands of documents on the grounds they contained information that would compromise security upon release.

Biden demanded in his order that around 16,000 documents remained redacted. However, he authorized the release of nearly 13,000 of them. He also set a May 1, 2023 deadline for either federal agencies or the National Archives to make their recommendations on whether to keep the rest of the documents from the public.

On November 22, 1963, President JFK died in Dallas, Texas after former U.S. Marine Lee Harvey Oswald fired a rifle from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository. His aim was true and he hit his target, President Kennedy, while he was riding in an open-top convertible during a parade.

Kennedy was not Oswald’s only victim. The murder later killed police officer J.D. Tippit while attempting to evade capture. Oswald was arrested and charged with Kennedy’s assassination but denied responsibility.

Many questions whether justice was ever served for Oswald as he was killed by nightclub owner Jack Ruby two days later. Ruby was then arrested and convicted of the murder.

Over the years numerous conspiracy theories have been born surrounding the actions of both men. Some point to Ruby’s alleged connections to organized crime and allege a greater conspiracy to assassinate Kennedy by the mob. Many more have sprung up over the years we can only hope the released documents would shed light on the reasons behind Oswald’s actions.
