Liberal Cardinal Seeks to Change the Church in this Fundamental Way

Luxembourg Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich is president of the pan-European grouping of Catholic bishops’ conferences, known as COMECE. He is also the leading voice in liberal church leaders crying out for change on the church’s teaching of Homosexuality.

In a recent interview with KNA, a German Catholic news agency, the cardinal was asked for his views on the church’s teaching on Homosexuality. This after 125 Catholic Church employees in Germany, which includes priests, came out as LGBTQ.

A Liberal Cardinal Takes A Stand

In the new woke attitudes of the current Catholic Church leadership, unsurprisingly, the Cardinal came out in defense of the LGBTQ activists petitioning against the church.

“I believe that the sociological-scientific foundation of this teaching is no longer true,” he said in the interview. Cardinal Hollerich continued with his opinion on change for the future, “I think it’s time we make a fundamental revision of the doctrine”.

Homosexuality has been a hot topic in all denominations of the Christian religion. As society has become open to alternative lifestyles the pressure on the church to conform and accept sin in its leadership and teaching has become widespread.

What Does the Future of the Church Look Like?

The question now is will the Catholic Church cave, and change its doctrine? Pope Francis has been very vague on the topic leaving it open for interpretation. He has not gained the monicker “Woke Pope” for nothing.

But the fact remains that the Bible, the text from which most Christian churches adhere and create their doctrine, claims Homosexuality to be a sin. Homosexuality isn’t the only sin one can commit. This is why scripture is clear on how individual churches should be run and what kind of leadership should be looked for. A big no-no according to the word of God is that those openly living in unrepentant sin should not work or hold power in the church.

Grace, mercy, and forgiveness must be given to those who do live lifestyles opposing the word of God. But that doesn’t mean we change the definition of love to mean tolerance. Church discipline is also spoken of in the bible and as Paul wrote to timothy the word of the bible is good for the use of instruction and rebuke.

The time to watch church leadership is now. Will we have a great falling away as churches turn to more progressive and life-affirming teachings rather than the actual instructions found in Scripture? Many have already fallen to the pressure of conforming to society.
