Longshoremen Pause Strike After DeSantis Says THIS

The International Longshoremen’s Association has agreed to pause their strike until January 15, preventing what would have certainly been a political disaster for Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign — as the strike would have crippled the U.S. economy and caused a serious supply chain crisis just weeks before the November election. The strike may have largely been halted thanks to the words of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), according to some reports.

In a breaking report on Thursday, Politico revealed that the “union that represents tens of thousands of East Coast dockworkers and the shipping industry reached a tentative agreement on wages and are extending an expired contract through Jan. 15, 2025.”

The International Longshoremen’s Association confirmed in a post on Facebook that “effective immediately, all current job actions will cease and all work covered by the Master Contract will resume.”

Some commentators have suggested that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is responsible for the strike being paused, pointing out that the announcement came just hours after DeSantis declared that he would be deploying the Florida National Guard to ports effected by the strike to “maintain order and if possible resume operations which would otherwise be shut down.”

“At my direction, the Florida National Guard and the Florida State Guard will be deployed to critical ports affected by the strike to maintain order and, where possible, resume operations. It is unacceptable for the Biden-Harris administration to allow supply chain interruptions to hurt people who are reeling from a category 4 hurricane,” DeSantis explained in an X post on Thursday afternoon.

This strike would have more than likely crippled the U.S. economy ahead of the November election and caused serious problems for the American people in receiving goods going into the holiday season. As reports emerged that the strike was looming earlier this week, Americans already began panic-buying essential goods at stores across the country, including water and toilet paper.

Breitbart News previously reported that there had already been a problem with port congestion as the union began threatening to strike, noting: “Growing lines of container ships continued to form outside major U.S. ports on Thursday as the biggest dockworker strike in nearly 50 years entered its third day,” it reported. “The choke points are threatening shortages of everything from bananas to auto parts and are anticipated to grow in coming days if no resolution is forthcoming.”

“Some 45 container vessels that have been unable to unload had dropped anchor outside the strike-stricken East Coast and Gulf Coast ports by Wednesday, up from just three before the strike began on Sunday, according to Everstream Analytics,” the Breitbart News report continued.

Meanwhile, Harris expressed support for the strike earlier this week, surprising many people who believed that it would be a disaster for her campaign — though many expected that she had no choice but to endorse the strike, as she has been struggling to gain the support of unions ahead of the election.
