ICYMI – There were some dramatics in this Senate Homeland Security Meeting.
Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Gary Peters (D-MI) was wielding his power against Senator Rand Paul (R-KY).
Paul decided enough was enough, and he just walked out.
I’m Done
Paul was given the floor to introduce his amendments to a piece of legislation.
Peters kept introducing new amendments to counter the amendments by Paul, which is not usually how this works.
After this happened several times, Paul clearly had enough.
He was getting very agitated, recommending all Republicans just leave the meeting.
Senator Sinema (I-AZ) tried to interject to get things to cool down.
She stated, “Take a couple minutes, lower the temperature, just figure out the procedure.”
She continued, “There’s no need for us to turn this committee hearing into a partisan, ugly place like we’ve seen in other committees.
“We don’t need to do that.”
Paul did take a breath, but he eventually did walk out…
After the meeting was over, Peters stated, “I look forward to working with Sen. Paul and hopefully we can find common ground to go forward.
“Some of the amendments he offered were not germane to the substance of the bill that we were dealing with.”
Maybe he should have something along those lines when Paul was still in the room instead of just striking down everything he proposed.
