Scarlett Johansson Vs Disney Turns HOT

The fight between actress Scarlett Johansson and Disney is heating up, with both sides arguing over the release of the movie Black Widow, which Johansson stars in.

Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney for releasing the movie Black Widow via the Disney Plus streaming service at the same time it was released in theaters, alleging that the company is using the COVID pandemic to neglect its contractual obligations to artists.

In a court filing on July 29, Johansson alleged that Disney’s decision cost her millions of dollars in backend compensation.

According to the actress, her bonuses were tied to hitting box office benchmarks that the movie likely won’t achieve if it is released simultaneously on Disney Plus and in theaters.

In response, Disney is arguing that it complied with the terms of Johansson’s deal, calling out the actress for showing “callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The company released an unusually fiery statement about the actress’ breach of contract lawsuit.

“There is no merit whatsoever to this filing,” Disney wrote. “The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Disney also noted that Johansson has already received $20 million for her role in Black Widow, arguing that “the release of ‘Black Widow’ on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date.”

The company did not provide any information about whether the actress’ contract was renegotiated to allow her to share in the revenue from Disney Plus streaming the film.
