The debt deadline is approaching rather quickly.
Yet, there has been no progress publicized.
Speaker McCarthy (R-CA) announced why, and it is not looking good for our economy right now.
Not Coming to the Table
McCarthy has been begging Biden to come to the table to talk about the debt ceiling, but Biden is playing hardball.
He does not want to reduce spending, so he is not coming to the table.
McCarthy is doing his best to let the country know that if we do default on our debt, it is because Joe Biden refuses to even sit down with McCarthy to discuss it.
He published the letter that he sent to Biden, writing, “Nearly two months ago, you and I sat down to discuss a path forward on the debt limit. Since that time, however, you and your team have been completely missing in action on any meaningful follow-up to this rapidly approaching deadline.
“[W]ith each passing day, I am incredibly concerned you are putting an already fragile economy in jeopardy by insisting upon your extreme position of refusing to negotiate any meaningful changes to out-of-control government spending alongside an increase of the debt limit.”
The letter goes on, “I have no interest in brinksmanship — only in doing what is best for the American people.
“We cannot solve the nation’s fiscal problems overnight, and House Republicans are not demanding we do so.
“But we cannot continue to kick the can down the road and ignore America’s ballooning national debt, all while you continue to spend trillions more, including through unaccountable executive fiat.”
McCarthy concluded, “Mr. President, simply put: you are on the clock.
“It’s time to drop the partisanship, roll up our sleeves, and find common ground on this urgent challenge.”
Ironically, it was the White House that accused the Republicans of playing games when Biden is the one refusing to play ball.
Karine Jean-Pierre stated, “It’s time for Republicans to stop playing games, pass a clean debt ceiling bill, and quit threatening our economic recovery.”
As McCarthy stated, the clock is ticking and if nobody blinks, our economy goes right into the toilet.
As bad as it will be, we need McCarthy to hold firm to cut back this crazy spending binge that Biden is on.
