There is a case playing out in Florida right now that could be a problem for DeSantis moving forward.
A former Florida lawmaker that has been instrumental in helping DeSantis had pleaded guilty to COVID fraud.
While this is not directly linked to DeSantis, it did happen on his watch, so I would expect his critics to use it against him.
Guilty
Former Florida State Representative Joseph Harding pleaded guilty and is now facing as much as 35 years in jail.
Harding reportedly filed for COVID relief on behalf of two fake companies to dip his paws into the COVID relief funding.
Harding’s lawyer, Peg O’Connor, stated, “Mr. Harding made the best decision available to him under the circumstances to protect his family and his future.
“We look forward to presenting information at sentencing that will provide a fuller picture and give some insight into who Mr. Harding is as a person.”
Harding sponsored the parental rights bill in Florida, which the media has taken to calling the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
With that legislation still front and center, don’t be surprised if Democrats looks to use this against DeSantis if he runs for president.
That is if Trump does not beat them to the punch.
However, if I were Trump, I would leave this one alone because there was far more fraud at the federal level under his watch.
