Trump finally managed to get one of his guys in as Speaker of the House.
Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) finally managed to get the GOP caucus united behind his nomination.
Johnson also happens to be a big Trump supporter, so surely Donald Trump is enjoying this win too.
Trump’s Guy
Trump may not have won that race, but it was his guy, so as far as he is concerned, this was his win.
Trump had not directly endorsed Johnson, but he made it clear to the caucus that is who he wanted them to vote for and pass as the new Speaker.
This came after Trump brutally slammed Mike Emmer, who had been the previous nominee.
Emmer had reached out to Trump, hoping to get his support, and Trump responded by calling him a RINO globalist who would be a mistake as House Speaker.
Johnson, on the other hand, has been someone who has stayed under the radar, even though he very much supported Trump’s effort to fight the 2020 election results.
In fact, Johnson wrote the amicus brief that was signed by more than 100 members of the GOP House caucus to support the case brought by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to nullify the election results in four battleground states that Trump lost in 2020.
Democrats are quite aware of this and will use that to attack Johnson now that he is the new Speaker.
The fight may be over, but the battle continues on.
