80% Of Americans Fear Country Is ‘Spiraling’ Out of Control After Assassination Attempt

The vast majority of Americans are concerned that the United States is “spiraling” out of control after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, according to a new survey.

The two-day poll of 992 registered voters conducted by Reuters/Ipsos, which ended on Tuesday, revealed that four out of ten Americans (80%) fear that the U.S. is “spiraling” out of control, while 86% agree that “acts of violence” are “throwing this country into chaos.”

According to Axios, the survey showed that 56% of respondents were “very concerned” and 30% were “somewhat concerned” after the attempted assassination of Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, that left one heroic father dead and two others wounded.

When broken down by party, 64% of Democrats expressed that they were “very concerned,” compared to 53% of Republicans and 54% of independents.

The poll came just before Trump’s historic speech in the final evening of the Republican National Convention (RNC), where he was officially nominated as the Republican presidential candidate for the upcoming 2024 election. Trump reportedly rewrote his planned speech following the assassination attempt, telling the Washington Examiner that “it’s going to be a whole different speech now.”

Many of the RNC’s attendees have expressed awe at the Republican nominee’s resilience following the assassination attempt, noting that his defiant response to nearly being killed just days before has renewed their faith that his second term will usher in a better future for the country, despite concerns that the political violence witnessed over the weekend could lead to the country “spiraling” into dark times.

His triumphant return to the RNC, which was his first public appearance following the attack, was viewed as a moment of strength for the country.

Many conservatives, including Trump himself, have argued that divine intervention occurred in the moments leading up to the first bullet grazing Trump’s ear, which they noted was a good sign for the future.

“There’s so many little things that line up, but you’re right: the fact that he turned his head at the precise time and his life was spared, that bullet clipping his ear, it really was a miracle we all witnessed,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) told Breitbart News during an interview at the convention.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) also told Breitbart news that he believed the “good Lord” saved Trump in that moment.

“There’s no other way to explain that. He turns at the exact right second,” the congressman told Breitbart News’ Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle.
