Upscale NYC neighborhoods are finally feeling the heat as the crime wave that has effected the city encroaches upon the wealthy. Neighborhoods like the West Village and Greenwich Village, have seen a spike in criminal activity this year, according to the current New York city Area Police Division report released.
Compared to the crime stats from the exact same areas in 2015, New York’s 6th District found an 80 % uptick in general crimes, theft is up 119% and grand thefts up more than 100%.
Small business owners and concerned citizens have spoken to media outlets explaining their frustration over the absence of order. The sense of safety in a community that’s claim to fame is sightings of celebrities, historic brownstones, and the arts scene has been irrevocably shattered.
The owner of Village Revival records in Greenwich Village, Jama Alnasr, told CBS 2 he hardly calls the cops any longer considering that “anything appears to go nowadays.”

The 6th Precinct has seen a massive increase in crime, other Precincts across the city have seen their fair share of the action as well.
The New York Post reported that the 1st Precinct, which covers the Financial District, is No. 7 on the list of highest crime increases. They have seen a 65% spike this year alone. Wall Street is up to 1,152 compared to the 696 that occurred over the same period last year.
“The criminals know now that they can go into the high price areas and there’s no consequences,” a Manhattan cop told The Post. “So now they can go to the 6th Precinct, the 1st Precinct where the tourists are and it’s the same as being in an higher crimes neighborhood.”
