ICYMI – Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was actually nice.
Pelosi actually had some very nice words to say after Speaker McCarthy (R-CA) met with Taiwan’s president.
This is a stark contrast to Pelosi’s usually venomous comments about Republicans.
Strong Leadership
Pelosi, who made a trip to Taiwan as Speaker, actually gushed over the meeting held with President Tsai and a delegation led by McCarthy.
She stated, “Today’s meeting between President Tsai of Taiwan and Speaker McCarthy is to be commended for its leadership, its bipartisan participation and its distinguished and historic venue.”
McCarthy was initially scheduled to fly to Taiwan for this meeting after taking over the gavel.
However, he smartly decided to cancel his trip and invited the Taiwanese president to come visit for a meeting here in the States.
The meeting still drew the ire of the Chinese, but not nearly as much had McCarthy traveled to Taiwan.
Many believe it is only a matter of time before China makes a similar move on Taiwan that Russia is now doing with Ukraine.
That will put Biden in a very tough spot, as he has promised to back Taiwan, but that would go against the current US One China policy.
