On August 18th Donald Trump, Jr. took to his Twitter account with a fantastic analysis of the situation in Afghanistan: effectively it is a hostage situation. The Taliban have the American military forces defending Hamid Karzai International Airport surrounded at gunpoint. Trump, Jr. Tweeted, “With apparently 10,000-40,000 Americans effectively blockaded from the airport in Kabul by Taliban Terrorists did Joe Biden create the largest hostage situation in the history of America or even the world? #BidenDisaster“

Appearing on Sean Hannity the next day, Donald Trump, Jr. expanded on this concept of the Airport siege as an effective hostage situation. with the Fox Host. Hannity asked,
“I saw the president’s schedule today and that was about COVID, no questions, no discussions, no updates, no plan, nothing at all to help our fellow Americans. And by the way, the interpreters and all the people that we promised if this day ever came, we would — we would protect them and get them out of there. Not necessarily bring them here, but we would bring them to safety. None of that has happened.
Your reaction?”
Trump, Jr. jumped on the fecklessness of the WhiteHouse,
“Well, I’m surprised they didn’t do the press conference from an ice cream shop, Sean, because that’s all he’s been capable of doing. But it’s an absolute embarrassment.
The reality is this, as far as I am aware, Joe Biden has created the largest hostage situation perhaps in the history of the world. If we have between 10,000 and 40,000 Americans blockaded off from an airport that our embassy — now, when we say embassy, we have to use air quotes, Sean, because the embassy has fallen to the Taliban.
So a bureaucrat from D.C. is saying they can’t guarantee their safety, but they should get there anyway.
They’ve been blockaded by the Taliban. They’re trapped by a terrorist regime. This is arguably the largest hostage situation in history. And it’s all on Joe Biden.”
The Uncertain Hostage Number: Americans and Friendly Afghans
The most frustrating part of all of this is the painfully incomplete and contradictory intelligence and figures the US Government is providing the public, with estimates ranging from 5,000 to 40,000 Americans in-country, the figures that Biden presented in his August 20th press conference are meaningless, his braggadocio of how many people have been airlifted out just arent impressive without knowing how many of our people are actually there, to begin with.

The New York Post reported,
“Pentagon press secretary John Kirby on Thursday admitted he “doesn’t know” how many Americans remain in Afghanistan as the Biden administration scrambles to evacuate American citizens and Afghans at risk of Taliban reprisals from the country.
Kirby and Maj. Gen. Hank Taylor said 7,000 people had been flown out of Hamid Karzai International Airport since the evacuations began on Saturday — 2,000 in the past 24 hours.”
“Kirby said he was unable to break down how many Americans had been on the flights, compared to Afghans and people from other countries.
Kirby was asked directly how many Americans are in Afghanistan. “I don’t know,” he said.
This allows the Biden-Harris DoJ and Dept. of State to create a constantly moving goal-post that the American people can’t track. under these terms, they can continue the “evacuation” long after the last American citizen or Afghan supporter has lifted off the tarmac.
