The father of a Utah Marine who was killed in the suicide bombing at the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan has broken his silence in an interview.
During the August 27th interview, the father of Darin Taylor Hoover Jr. said that he wants people to know who his son is, and how much the 31 year old Marine loved his country.
For 11 years, Hoover had been serving in the Marines. At the time of his death, he was on his third deployment to Afghanistan. According to his father, he was doing for others what they could not do for themselves, and he made the ultimate sacrifice.
“He loves his country. He loves people. He led his men into that and they followed him. But I know in my heart of hearts he was out front and they followed him into the gates of Hell. And ultimately, that’s pretty much what he did, just to help preserve our freedoms,” Hoover’s father said.
Congressman Chris Stewart (R-Utah) tweeted about Hoover’s death, expressing his condolences to the Marine’s family.
“Yesterday, the state of Utah lost one of its finest in a tragic act of terror. A Marine from Utah made the ultimate sacrifice during the bombing in Kabul. The loved ones of this hero have my full support and immeasurable gratitude. This soldier’s heroism will never be forgotten,” Stewart wrote.
