Prosecutors from President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice have reportedly uncovered sufficient information to charge Biden’s son, Hunter, with a multitude of crimes.
According to The Washington Post, charges against Hunter related to taxes and lying to investigators about a firearm purchase were determined to be viable “months ago.”
However, the agents who revealed this information lack the authority to charge the President’s son. Only the U.S. Attorney of Delaware possesses the authority and jurisdiction necessary to bring such charges.
The Daily Wire reported that now U.S. Attorney in Delaware, David C. Weiss, is the only person who can determine whether or not to file criminal charges against the disgraced 52-year-old son of the President of the United States.
The criminal investigation by Federal authorities into Hunter has been lengthy and was largely directed toward financial crimes regarding his overseas business dealings.
However, the investigation expanded, and several agencies probed whether Hunter Biden paid his appropriate tax burden and whether or not he lied on an ATF Form 4473 background check when he purchased the firearm that he allegedly dumped in a trash receptacle near a school.
“A prosecutor can say they have bigger fish to catch, or they can decide to seek a deal,” Joseph G. Green, a retired ATF agent, said. “As agents, we would always include as many charges as we could, but it’s ultimately up to the prosecutor to decide which ones they will bring.”
Fox News and CNN reported that Delaware U.S. Attorney’s office was considering charges against Hunter Biden with several crimes related to tax violations, the firearm background check, and even possible foreign lobbying crimes.
Biden’s attorney was reportedly angered by the press, telling journalists that any federal agent that leaked information to The Washington Post had committed a felony.
“It is a federal felony for a federal agent to leak information about a Grand Jury investigation such as this one,” attorney Chris Clark said in a statement. “Any agent you cite as a source in your article apparently has committed such a felony. We expect the Department of Justice will diligently investigate and prosecute such bad actors. As is proper and legally required, we believe the prosecutors in this case are diligently and thoroughly weighing not just evidence provided by agents, but also all the other witnesses in this case, including witnesses for the defense. That is the job of the prosecutors. They should not be pressured, rushed, or criticized for doing their job.”
Thirty Republican senators penned a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland last month urging a special counsel to be named in order to protect the ongoing Department of Justice (DOJ) investigation.
The senators cited extensive whistleblower accounts uncovered by Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio alleging that top officials at the FBI had actively suppressed reports about Hunter Biden in the lead-up to the 2020 election.
