GOP House Heartbreak… She Died in Her Sleep

Texans and Republicans are mourning the loss of one of their own today.

On Monday, Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) announced that his daughter had passed away overnight.

His daughter, Christine, was the oldest daughter of the Texas congressman who is set to retire at the end of this term.

She’s Gone

I have several friends who have lost a child, and it is just heartbreaking.

No parent should ever have to do that, but it is just a harsh reality of life.

Burgess, who had served 11 terms, decided that this was enough and he was going to retire from Congress to enjoy his family and life in the next chapter.

Sadly, that chapter has not yet begun and he will already spend the holidays mourning the loss of his daughter.

His office confirmed the death, stating, “Congressman Burgess appreciates all of the thoughts & prayers & respectfully requests privacy for his family at this difficult time.”

Obviously, members of the House expressed their condolences to Burgess.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) stated, “It is with deep sadness that we share the tragic news about the passing of Congressman Burgess’ beloved daughter, Christine.

“Our hearts and our prayers go out to our dear friend and colleague and his family at this very difficult time.”

Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) added, “Jill and I are saddened to learn of the passing of @michaelcburgess’s daughter, Christine. Please join us in praying for the entire Burgess family during this incredibly difficult time.”

Burgess was honored earlier this year in the House with an official portrait hung in the Capitol.

During the ceremony, Burgess stated, “I am beyond grateful and honored for the opportunity of a lifetime to serve as the Representative of the 26th Congressional district for the past 22 years.

“Reflecting on my time in Congress, I am filled with gratitude and appreciation for the people that surrounded me and the impactful legacy we have created together for North Texans.”

You have our condolences, sir, and may your daughter, Christine, rest in peace.
