The Numbers Still Do NOT Add Up…Elections Still Uncertified

ICYMI – Arizona had numerous oddities happen on election day but one notable one was that Republican turnout was up and Democratic turnout down from 2018 in Maricopa County, which is completely in opposition to the results. The Midterm election had some of the top-of-the-ticket GOP candidates losing their races.

Statistically, Republicans outnumber Democrats in Arizona overall. The Republican party has more than 166,000 registered voters over the democrats.

Maricopa County saw a 64.2 percent voter participation rate in the midterms. That was about 8 percent above the average 56.3 percent going back to the 1970s, according to the county’s Election Day director, Scott Jarrett.

The November election had 75.4% of Republicans voting. However, records show that in 2018, republican turnout was a little more than 1 percentage point lower at 74.2 percent.

In contrast, Democrats saw a 2% decrease from this year in 2018: 68.5 percent versus 69.9 percent.

Despite the turnout numbers for both party’s gubernatorial candidates and Arizona’s secretary of state, Democrat Katie Hobbs won her race. She ran against Republican Kari Lake a former news anchor in Arizona and outspoken advocate for the Arizonian people.

Additionally, Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly defeated GOP challenger Blake Masters.

Kelly’s win can be explained by his fame as the incumbent, a former astronaut, a Navy veteran, and the husband of former Arizona U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords. Giffords suffered a traumatic injury during a 2011 assassination attempt that has had lasting effects on her health.

Kelly carries a lot of support among Democrats. His voting record shows that he votes in line with President Joe Biden 94.5 percent of the time.
